Hardly anyone can deny the influence of the American west on the zeitgeist. Whether you’re a Beyhive member (Beyoncé fandom) in your best ‘Cowboy Carter’ uniform. Maybe you dream of chilling under the open skies of a Texas ranch. Or, you admire the rugged mien of the Marlboro Man. That pull is compelling.

Let’s talk about the artifacts of the western renaissance sweeping through culture right now. The music is shaping a new generation. Clothing including plaid fabrics, and denim play a vital role. Accessories like cowboy hats, bolo ties, bandana/scarves, leather belts, and boots are also mainstream. Nay, the wave hasn’t died down—it is still riding high.
If you’ve been thinking about experimenting with western wear, here’s one classic piece to adopt right now: Western shirt.

This staple item can work in a variety of settings, either dressed up or down. And if you’re headed to your favourite music festival, the western shirt is always rodeo ready. It is also perfect for a casual stroll through town.
The unique proposition of the western shirt includes features that give it longevity and versatility. One is the yoke on the front and back of the garment that adds structure around the shoulders. Then, the snap buttons—which are sometimes made of ornamental material —make it easy to put off and on. There’s something oddly satisfying about ripping them open.

Here, I am wearing a 522-Blend-S Rework shirt I thrifted a long time ago. I curated this sassy cowboy look with other key pieces.
Let’s break down the look.
The bright red colour of the shirt with bold white plaid patterns give it an informal feel. I styled it with a scarf that mimics a bolo tie for that extra cowboy flair. The visual appeal and synergy of the scarf against the white tank top is amazing.

For the pants, I opted for this olive green twill pants by Dockers. Although, I quite agree that denim would have been a better choice. I was going for that distinctive Japanese-Americana vibe. Hit or Miss?
A pair of simple loafers to finish the look with an intentional carefree vibe.

What do you think about this trend? How would you style a western shirt?
